    The NZ Open Source Society is collaborating with several central and local NZ government agencies to evaluate the suitability of Linux on the desktop for government. The project is called the Public Sector Remix and we want to be able to share experiences and evaluate the policies and outcomes of other countries.

    What is sure that existing, proprietary, mainstream technology can not provide the solution.

    The objectives of this special interest group are:
    to agree an architecture, based on Free / Open Source Software, that provides secure client computing at an affordable cost;
    to configure a Linux distribution, based on Debian, that enables social inclusion;
    to develop the architecture to enable secure, remote management of these clients;
    to develop and put in place the infrastructure to provide user support.
