I agree.
I have both MCP and LPI - they have little to do with OpenSource and open standards implementation.
The best demonstation of expertise in this arena is an example of where a person/team has proved the viability of some OpenSource tool/system.
Perhaps this group should encourage a listing of implementations of good/bad solutions to help provide a benchmark for other groups to share.
It is not just the software/techology that should be ‘open’, should the learning gained by the implementors also be made available.
Perhaps a drive to improve the content of the OpenSource Academy would be a start.
