It’s been really good to read all the positive feedback about our Manchester event (thank you!) along with all the useful suggestions about how we should build on this.

One thing defintely borne out in the feedback and also the Open Source Survey was the need for more forum-type events like this in the future. (Guess there’s still nothing like meeting face-to-face).

With this in mind, we’re already thinking about the next event which we could hold later this year subject to demand. We’d like to get some ideas initially about what people would like to hear and talk about, as well as practical things like location, date etc and of course, whether you’d be interested in coming along. Use the forum here to post suggestions and kick off ideas.

To start things off, should we extend the event beyond local government into the wider public sector, or continue to keep it strictly LG-focused?

Personally I would like to keep the focus strictly LG, however most of the expertise lies outside of the Public Sector.

Something that I have been looking at, is open source CMS solutions, however what I cannot find is a LA that actually uses one to drive its main .gov site(caveat excluding APLAWS+ which is a bit out dated now). Lots of LA’s are experimenting with small adhoc sites using open source CMS’s, but is there anyone out there developing one for their .gov site?

Another area that needs covering is procurement, currently no open source solution is going to get a look in, how can this be overhauled?

A quick question: I’d like to make our next event as inclusive as possible, looking at extending participation to all members of UKGovOSS.org, including suppliers, voluntary sector organisations and enthusiasts.

Do anyone have any views on this?

    Ian,

Would love to be included. Please update this with a decision soon.

    Cheers,
